Japan Joins U.S. Global Entry Program for Streamlined Travel
Travel between Japan and the United States just got easier. Japan has officially joined the U.S. Global Entry program, becoming the 18th partner country. This development allows Japanese citizens to enjoy expedited customs and immigration processing upon arrival in the United States.
How It Works for Japanese Citizens
Japanese travelers interested in joining Global Entry will need to meet the same requirements as U.S. participants. This includes:
- Recurring Background Checks: Ensuring a clean travel history and compliance with security standards.
- In-Person Interview: Conducted to verify eligibility.
- Vetting by Japanese Authorities: Adding an extra layer of security through coordination with Japanese agencies.
Once approved, participants will also gain access to TSA PreCheck, enabling smoother domestic security screening in the U.S.
Strengthening Economic and Business Ties
U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, highlighted the importance of this partnership:
“Expedited and easy entry into the United States for Japanese visitors means improved travel experiences and better business for both our nations,” Emanuel said.
He emphasized Japan’s role as the largest foreign direct investor in the United States, with Japanese companies employing nearly one million Americans. By joining the Global Entry program, both countries aim to enhance economic ties and foster greater cooperation.
