Costco recently made waves in the travel world by booking an extravagant 150-day around-the-world cruise for $293,000 through its Costco Travel service. This impressive booking was highlighted during the retailer’s first-quarter earnings call by CFO Gary Millerchip, who shared intriguing details about Costco’s travel offerings.

A Luxury Cruise Experience

The 150-day cruise, which started from Fort Lauderdale, featured stops at incredible destinations such as the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island. The booking included an exclusive Owner’s Suite cabin for two passengers.

Beyond the hefty price tag, the package came with extra perks:

  • A $13,000 shipboard credit
  • A $25,000 Costco Shop Card

Millerchip didn’t reveal which cruise line operated the luxury voyage but emphasized the high value that Costco Travel delivers to its members.

Costco Travel: A Member-Exclusive Service

Costco Travel offers members a variety of travel options, from vacation packages and car rentals to cruises, hotels, and flights. The retailer’s travel deals often include additional benefits, such as the Costco Shop Card, which can be used to purchase memberships or any items sold at Costco.

“Our offerings include highly attractive rates,” Millerchip said. “Many of our packages also come with added value like the Costco Shop Card.”

Big Numbers for Travel and Membership

Costco Travel’s popularity extends far beyond luxury cruises. Millerchip shared another standout statistic: last year, Costco sold enough car rentals to fill every U.S. Costco parking spot 8.5 times.

Costco’s global reach continues to expand, with over 600 locations in the U.S. and more than 270 worldwide. The company’s membership numbers are equally impressive, with 138.8 million people holding Costco membership cards.

In its first quarter alone, Costco generated $62.15 billion in revenue, with $60.98 billion coming from net sales and $1.17 billion from membership fees.

Travel as a Costco Perk

Members who use Costco Travel services tend to spend twice as much as those who don’t, Millerchip noted. This underscores the appeal of Costco’s value-driven travel offerings, which combine competitive rates with exclusive perks.

From booking dream vacations to securing everyday essentials, Costco continues to deliver value to its loyal members. With luxury experiences like a $293,000 around-the-world cruise, Costco Travel proves that it’s not just about bulk groceries—it’s also a gateway to unforgettable adventures.
